Director of Finance

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Finance will be responsible for the management and oversight of all finance and accounting reporting activities of the Institute and will be involved in the preparation and presentation of financial reports to the board, finance and audit committees.  The Finance Director will be a “hands-on” member of the senior leadership team and will work closely with Human Resources, Grants administration, IT and facilities.
The Director of Finance will lead all day-to-day finance operations of an annual operating budget of ~ $17 million and supervise a team of two to three Finance staff members, with functional responsibility over finance, accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. The Finance Director will ensure that the financial systems and processes and reports of the Institute support effective program management, enable flawless audits and are in full compliance with all relevant laws, regulations and accounting standards. The Director will work closely with program leaders and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations.  Candidates will ideally have experience in a complex nonprofit environment that has multiple programs and must have previous experience with Federal Grants and indirect cost regulations and reporting.
The Finance Director will partner with the CEO and senior leadership of the Institute to enhance and better integrate internal processes and financial reports.

System Administrator

The SETI Institute is currently looking for a full time Linux Systems Administrator to support our global research at our Mountain View Headquarters. The ideal candidate will have extensive Linux administration and troubleshooting experience within a Ubuntu- based environment. The position is also responsible for performing operational support and maintenance of Linux servers and systems.

Director of Communications

The SETI Institute is seeking an accomplished Director of Communications.  The incumbent should have at least 10 years of communications experience, ideally in a leadership role, preferably within a scientific environment, and covering areas such as website content, newsletters, science communication and donor engagement. The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical.

This role is strategic and has a heavy emphasis on communicating the funded science to the general public including building external relationships with the organization's constituencies, including the media.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Communications will set and guide the strategy for all communications, website, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate the Institute’s mission.  In addition, the Director will collaborate with senior peer group within the organization, and the Board of Directors as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives.

Astrobiology and Planetary Science Research Assistant
