First Pluto Maps with Names

Some of the results of the public naming campaign for Pluto are already showing up on maps.

An initiative sponsored by the SETI Institute to solicit nomenclature suggestions from the public for surface features on Pluto as well as on its largest moon Charon has undergone a preliminary review by the New Horizons team.  Some of the chosen names can be seen on these new maps:

Mark Showalter, SETI Institute senior research scientist and New Horizons team member, reports that the campaign,, has produced a remarkably diverse and imaginative list of names.  The names on these maps have not yet received formal approval by the International Astronomical Union.
